What've learned so far

Postby Thevampkid » Wed Jan 11, 2017 12:06 pm

Hello all, long-time android hacker here.

I'm currently trying to figure out how to root the Ticwatch to make a lot of things easier. Still some work is being done on it but it will likely require a development dock.

This guide is under development

////////////////////////////////

(Sideloading) Installing apps - WARNING!! - Installing an app is not 100% recommended. Once the app is installed, if it doesn't work there is no clear way to remove it save for rooting.

////////////////////////////////

Anyway here's how to do it.
You need adb drivers installed and install the adb. for those who don't know adb stands for Android Debug Bridge. This is a program that works as a shell to work on android devices.

I will make this part of the tutorial later.

Once you have these things installed, go to your watch and click on settings > about > tap on ticwatch version repeatedly until you see that you are in developer mode. Once in developer mode go back and select developer options. you want to tick adb test and wifi testing. Leave and go to Network > wifi > advanced settings > write down the IP address. open up CMD if in windows or terminal for linux (screw mac).

type: adb connect [the IP you copied without these brackets]:7272 (press enter)

you'll see on your watch a confirmation, accept it.

type: adb devices

you'll see output similar to this:
List of devices attached
192.168.1.9:7272 device

this means you can now control your device from the terminal/cmd/othershell

from here, get your APK file

type: cd /folder/you/put/the/file/in.file
replace in.file with your app name and extension (appexample.apk)

you should now be in that folder.
type: adb install appexample.apk

it should now be installing, be patient and wait for success to show.

check your watch, if it's not showing, then it installed but wont show. without rooting it's unremovable. sorry.

these apps I can confirm work.

The Ticwatch is already rooted from factory. You can use Aida64 or Wear Root to check it.
Also on adb you can do adb shell and the su. You will be allowed to be in superuser without password (theoreticaly)
