TicWatch 2 uses Qi Charging

Postby GordonHannan » Tue Jul 25, 2017 1:53 pm

Anyone looking for a watch charger replacement, you should be able to use any qi compatible charger. For fun, I tossed my TicWatch 2 on my qi charge mat (from my old Nexus 5) and it works to charge it perfectly fine.

Here's a video of it:

I just though I should mention that for anyone who has lost a charger/looking for a replacement!

I have charged my Ticwatch 2 on a fairly generic Qi charger with some success. However it does get very hot, so I wouldn't leave it on the charger for long. In fact on time it got so hot the watch shutdown. May just be this particular Qi charger, but it works just fine with my SG S6+.

I would highly recommend that no one follows this advice or suggestion.

I’ve seen at least 3 instances of someone doing this and now they no longer have a TicWatch. It completely killed it.

So risk it if you want, but it’s not recommended by me or by Mobvoi.

Sorry for the uninformed post, I didn't realize there was any difference between the two or that it wasn't recommended by Mobvoi. Thanks for letting me know!

To be fair, I only sat it on the mat for a few minutes, just to see if it would register, which was surprising. I was already close to 100% so I didn't leave it on. I don't know if it would have heated or or anything like Slugsie said theirs did.
